The U14s won their mini-tournament against Grimsby Phoenix, Grimsby Falcons and Hull Stingers on Sunday. The 4 teams competed in a round robin tournament in a very warm sports hall in Grimsby. After Falcons won their first match convincingly against Hull, Lightning went on to win their first game against Phoenix in a competitive match. After watching Phoenix beat Singers, Lightning fought a very close match against
Falcons, the game lead switched a few times with scores all tied with a minute to go before Lightning scored to win by 2. We were straight up again against Stingers – another close game until the last few minutes when the boys pulled away for a five-point win. Falcons ran Phoenix close, eventually winning in overtime. A great afternoon of basketball with all players stepping up, especially in their defence and fast breaks – some excellent team-play throughout.
