The second game for the U18s in the summer league was a tough one against an established club with a proud history. The Giants were well-drilled, physical and intense – they started the game with a full court press giving the Lightning team no space on the ball and shutting out passing lanes.

Attempts to drive into the basket found ‘help’ defenders blocking their path and despite some good ‘kick-outs’ and ‘extra-passes’ the shots were not falling allowing the Giants to pick off rebounds through their size and physicality.

After seeing their defence penetrated, Lincoln looked to target Giant’s play makers but any shots that fell short were picked up through their strong rebounding while their big players worked the baseline.

J Carter, as high scorer once more, led the offence as best he could, M Barrett worked hard inside, while F Wyatt showed he could handle pressure on the ball. Despite a good fight in the first quarter which closed 16-6, the young team struggled with the physical game in the second falling to 37-10 at the half and 61-18 at the final whistle.

We have a friendly against our seniors at LSST on 27 May – an opportunity to practice ‘our’ game and prepare for the next summer League on 10 Jun against Hucknall (who have also struggled) – a winnable game.
